One of the most common questions we get at MLT Power is: “Do I need one Tesla Powerwall 3 or two?”
The answer depends on your home's electricity consumption, appliances and backup requirements. While one Powerwall 3 is more than capable for many homes, larger households with higher loads may benefit from installing two.
One Powerwall 3 or Two?
A single Tesla Powerwall 3 provides 13.5 kWh of battery storage, while two Powerwalls provide 27 kWh. Having two also increases the overall available system capacity, making it better suited to homes with several high-demand appliances.
One Powerwall 3 is generally well suited to homes with moderate electricity consumption and a manageable number of high-power appliances.
Two Powerwall 3 units can be a better option for larger homes where homeowners want more battery storage, longer backup and greater flexibility when running multiple appliances.
Actual performance depends on your home's load profile, solar generation and how appliances are operated.
Why Some Homes Need Two Powerwalls
Not every household uses electricity in the same way.
A home with one geyser, a few lights, a fridge and occasional air-conditioning may be perfectly suited to one Powerwall 3.
However, larger homes can have significantly higher instantaneous loads. For example, an electric geyser can typically draw around 4 kW while heating. If you have two geysers heating at the same time, that could mean approximately 8 kW of demand from the geysers alone.
Add multiple air-conditioners, a pool pump, electric cooking, refrigeration and other household appliances, and the demand can increase quickly.
For these higher-consumption homes, two Tesla Powerwall 3 units can provide additional battery capacity and greater flexibility when running multiple appliances during a power outage.
So, Should You Get One or Two?
For many households, one Powerwall 3 is an excellent solution.
But if your home has multiple geysers, several air-conditioners or other high-power appliances, it is worth considering two Powerwalls.
At MLT Power, we size each system according to the individual home's electricity usage rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Whether you need one Powerwall 3 or two, the right system should give you reliable backup while matching your home's actual energy requirements.
